Volunteer with Youth Rising

The Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) is Youth Rising’s professional development program for people who intend to offer their skills and services to young people and in turn, benefit from learning and working with a professional organization. It is an opportunity to engage in youth service and prepare yourself for the world of work. The learning and experiences from the program open up numerous opportunities for the volunteers who go through this program. 


Volunteer Opportunities (All positions are at our Youth Rising offices in Mukono, or you can volunteer remotely).


  • Literacy facilitators (early childhood) (Mukono & Remote)

  • Teachers: Primary, O and A Levels (Mukono and remote)

  • Digital Literacy facilitators (Mukono and Remote)

  • Vocational training facilitator in fashion and design (Mukono)

  • Social and Digital Media volunteer (remote)

  • Sports, Athletic & MDD volunteers (Mukono)

  • Household Gardening, Agriculture and Nutrition volunteers (Mukono)

  • Health and wellness facilitators (Mukono and Remote)


Qualifications:

  • No specific degree, age, or certification is required. 

  • The most important things are skills and experience: The applicant MUST possess relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities pertaining to the program area.

  • Must be willing to learn on the job the principles of business and entrepreneurship, organizational systems and processes, as well as, strategic program and project management.

  • Must enjoy working in teams, but have the ability to work independently in a start-up environment.

  • Must be open-minded, face challenges constructively, and remain open to feedback.

  • Strong desire to work with individuals of all ages, but most specifically those aged 15-25.

  • Recommended, but not required: Residing in and around the area where the opportunity has been advertised


Training/Preparation:

  • Orientation training regarding the organization’s policies, procedures, and programs.

  • On-going observational and evaluative support from peers and supervisors.

  • General professional development training offered both at the midway and endpoints of each term.

  • At the discretion of the organization, specific skill-based training may be sought out and provided.


Time Commitment:

  • A minimum of 20 working hours per week at Youth Rising Center where you are placed, typically spread over the course of 3 or more business days.

  • Occasionally attend events in addition to or outside of your typical volunteer schedule, including, but not limited to, Open Houses, Community Outreaches, Partner Engagements, and Graduations.

Length of Commitment:

12 months is required

Contacts/Key Relationships

  • The Facilitators report directly to the center coordinator and externally to the Executive Director.


Supervisory Responsibility

The Facilitator has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
